MAKING PROGRESS ~ELF BOY~

I'm making some progress on this little Elf.  I added his head, ears and arms to the body. He stands 12 1/2" high at the ears. A smaller doll than I am use to. I wasn't able to articulate his tiny little fingers because it was too difficult turning them with this type of fabric. I followed Mimi's fabulous instructions but just couldn't accomplish it....sigh.... so I did the next best thing which was a sculpted hand. The micro suede fabric is much more fragile than muslin or cotton.
I had to be very careful when stuffing the fabric as not to poke a hole...it is not a forgiving fabric. I've never painted on this type of fabric so I did a practice head and I love the painting effects that this fabric yields...very different. Maybe the next elf will be done in muslin to see the difference.

The next step is making him a wig and sewing his clothing. He will have pants, shirt, vest, hat and elf shoes. He will be toting a bag on the end of his stick. Hope it will hold or I will have to make an armature stick.Mimi Winer did an exceptional job with her detailed instructions and plenty of pictures too!

Wow...very good job on such a tiny doll. I have one of Mimi's patterns for a Victorian doll and the detailed instructions are a bit scary. Some day I'll get up the courage to give it a try.

This little elf is looking good. You have branched out into so many different dolls. I come over here all the time. I don't comment every time, but I do look and admire the dolls. martha

Thank-you Mary Ann. You will love Mimi's detailed instructions. She doesn't miss a beat. I'm sure you would do her doll justice.

Thank-you Martha, Glad to have you visit anytime. Yes, I'm trying different dolls to see what I like and to learn new styles and techniques. One day I will start another Izannah Walker style doll.

Wow! He looks so intricate! You made this in microsuede? I've used that for a doll body for a small doll (about 5") and found it really hard to hand-sew the limbs to the body, so I'm really impressed by this. Lovely hands! Thank you for putting up wip photos. It's always wonderful to see how people put things together.

Hi Rhissanna, Yes it's microsuede and I found the fingers hard to turn. I really don't like microsuede, it's not the kind of fabric I would like to use over and over. Sewing the limbs on wasn't a problem but I had to be careful stuffing the doll because of poking holes.

It is intricate and the clothing took forever. I'm almost done and thinking of putting him up for a give-a-way but have to think about it.
